On the power of small teams

By Chris Muktar

At Userbird, we believe the best products come from small, brilliant teams.

Right now, we’re just four people building the future of web analytics. That’s by design. We move fast, stay focused, and care deeply about every detail.

Because every one of us is directly responsible for what reaches our users.

Small Teams. Strong Products.

We’ve seen it time and time again: small teams can punch well above their weight when they’re composed of the right people. There’s less overhead, more trust, and faster decision-making. Problems get solved quickly. Good ideas get built without politics. And everyone ships.

We’re inspired by teams like the early Superhuman crew, the original Basecamp devs, and the core folks behind Linear. These teams didn’t need 50 engineers to build a great product—they just needed the right five.

We’re Hiring Differently

We’re not building a big company. We’re building a great one.

That’s why we’re only hiring what some might call “10x” people-founder-mindset types who obsess over quality, care about users, and thrive in high-trust environments. People who want to build, not just attend meetings about building.

Userbird is an all-remote company. Not a new idea by today's standards, but still a challenge when trying to iterate on product across the globe.

We aren't VC

There's no 'talk to sales'. There's no special 'enterprise pricing'. This is by design. It isn't who we are. We're trying to let our work speak for itself, line by line, customer by customer. We're not trying to sell out to a private equity. We're bootstrapped from a profitable enterprise; a product we need for ourselves.

Clever Engineering Saves Time

Lastly, we're unconventional in our engineering choices. We have SQL in our frontend (a crime, you might say). We use Google BigQuery, where our competitors use Clickhouse or Singlestore, and there are decent merits for the latter. These are highly opinionated choices, designed to accelerate our engineering progress and ship faster.
